Huron Bay Lodge is located in the Western
Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a finger of land that juts out eastward from
Wisconsin just above the mitt that is mainland Michigan. This is a
spectacular region known for unspoiled beauty and historic landmarks and is the land written of by Longfellow in his 1855 epic
The Song of Hiawatha. As you can see from the map we are located on the
Point Abbaye Peninsula which juts out into Gitchee Gumee (Lake Superior)
and are surrounded on three sides by the big lake.
Ours is a truly special area of wild salmon streams, dense forest
wilderness and incredible wildlife diversity. The moose and wolf roam
freely in the Western Upper Peninsula. The people are special too. Known as
"yoopers", most are descendants of immigrants who came to the U. P. to
log and mine copper or are members of the Ojibway tribe of Native
Americans. Folks that live up here enjoy the isolation and rugged
terrain that defines the Western Upper Peninsula. You will too. |
